Day 123: Santorini, Greece

May 29, 2023 — I had free breakfast again this morning, which was once again delicious. It was coming up on eleven or so when I was moving and thinking about what I was going to do for the day. The original plan was to take the bus and go to Akrotiri, which is an excavation of an ancient city. I was really looking forward to going but I simply couldn’t muster up the energy for it today. I’m not even sure why.

But that’s the beauty of solo travelling: you can do whatever you feel like on any given day. I didn’t feel like going to Akrotiri and although I’d like to go someday, I spent the day in bed, playing games and watching TV instead. And I don’t regret it. I needed it, apparently.

However, that doesn’t mean that I didn’t do anything all day. I actually signed up to go with the hostel to the family dinner that they had every week at a local restaurant. It was one on the main road that I hadn’t tried while I’d been in the area and the setup was essentially a whole bunch of Greek food brought in waves that everyone could share. We had wine, good food, and it was wonderful company. There were even a few girls from Canada!

When we headed back to the hostel, I made a brief stop for a drink and a snack (I was inspired by another girl who’d been at dinner who did the same thing). I enjoyed that drink and snack back at the hostel with a couple episodes of How I Met Your Mother, then brushed my teeth and went to sleep.
