CAIT AROUND THE WORLD

May 15, 2023 — I woke up to a very pleasant surprise on the morning that I left Ubud — one of my favourite web comics updated after a months-long hiatus! (If you like webcomics, go check out The Gentle Way on Webtoon!) I got to enjoy reading that while I ate breakfast, then packed up, changed, and checked out of my hostel.

I got a Grab car to Denpasar, which was great but took almost two hours with traffic. (For reference, Denpasar is only about an hour from Ubud. A girl I met in Australia said that travel always takes longer in Indonesia — she couldn’t have been more right!)

I checked into my hotel — yes, you read that right: hotel! I’d decided a few months ago to treat myself to a hotel for my last night in Indonesia and it couldn’t have been better. (I found it on Booking.com and it was a thoroughly amazing experience!) I got a king bed all to myself, my own bathroom (of course) and, for the first time in my life, I even took advantage of room service and had my lunch in my room!

It was so incredibly worth it and I spent the rest of the day luxuriating in my own space. It was such a novelty to watch my shows with the volume up and to not have to think about other people coming into thee room and to not have to share a bathroom with who-knows-how-many other people. I wrote in my travel journal, watched even more TV, read my book, and then finally went down to the in-house restaurant for a proper, actual last dinner in Indonesia. I even splurged and got myself a lava cake for dessert (so worth it — check out the chocolate gush!).

After dinner, I showered and crawled into bed, then called home to tell all about my beautiful room. Then, I read some more before falling asleep to some shows on my phone. And I slept so insanely good that I was almost too late to catch the shuttle and my plane the next morning! But that’s a story for the next post…
