May 12, 2023 — I got up and headed out for the hostel’s free breakfast around 9:00am. They had a really nice free breakfast — banana pancake with fancy wrapped vegetables and fresh cut fruit. It was delicious. And the staff were always so nice.
After breakfast, I went out exploring for the day. My first stop was to try and find an ATM because I needed to get out a little more cash for the rest of my time in the country. I didn’t have any luck at that point in the day, so I headed onward to Ubud Palace instead and spent some time walking around it and marvelling at the intricate construction and statues on the grounds.

I walked down to Monkey Forest after that and took note of a cafe I wanted to try and a bookstore to come back to, perhaps the next day. When I arrived at Monkey Forest, it took a minute to figure out exactly where the entrance was and then another few minutes to get a ticket. It was well worth it, though. The Monkey Forest grounds are expansive and the name of the place is not, in any way, a misnomer. There are monkeys everywhere. I literally walked inside the gate, just past the ticket desk, and there were two hanging out in the trees. More walked the paths a little ways down or sat perched on the stone walls. They’re also used to visitors, evene though caution is required and the rules posted around the Forest must be followed. They will follow you around and even interact with you. It’s such a cool experience and I highly recommend going when you’re in Ubud.

I managed to hit upon a working ATM on the way back to the hostel and got out some more cash (not much because I was leaving Indonesia in a few days, but since everything is predominantly cash here, I definitely needed to get some more).
I had a little cool down time back at the hostel and then went out into the lounge area to blog, plan, and fill some time before heading out to get an early dinner.
I ended up going for a pizza at a place close to my hostel and then came back, showered, changed into my pyjamas, and climbed into bed to try to have some downtime and some nap time because I had to wake up at 1:30am to climb Mount Batur!
