Day 98: Gili Air, Indonesia

May 4, 2023 — My day started with yoga, much like it ended yesterday. I got up for the strengthen and stretch session starting at 8:00am and it was an excellent way to start the day. I do strengthen and stretch sessions at home and this one was fairly similar to what I expect from those. It’s so nice to have yoga classes similar to those you know and love from home while on the other side of the world.

After yoga, I took a quick swim and then had breakfast with my new friend! As she had a massage coupon to use up from her stay and I was interesting in taking one myself, we inquired next door and were told that we could come back after noon to revel in that luxury. In the meantime, we chilled by the pool.

Time passed quickly, and we did only have a couple hours to kill. At quarter after twelve exactly, we were at the spa entrance and were each treated to a full-body massage, which was quite a different experience for me, but was also so nice.

After our massages, my friend had to leave as she was moving onward in her travels. I went for lunch at a place called Juju and ordered their Mexican bowl. It’s a fully vegan restaurant and although I don’t normally lean to that, I really enjoyed the food and I can certainly see the appeal of enjoying vegetarian and vegan options every now and then. The black bean patties were absolutely delicious, and I loved the red cabbage, lettuce, and delightful touches of nachos and guacamole.

I spent more time by the pool that afternoon, and then it was time for yoga again. Tonight was yin/yang yoga, which meant that there were some stronger poses and more effort involved than the previous evening. It was nice, but much more challenging. I also think it might have been a lot, a bit too soon, because I was somewhat sore over the next couple days, having not done yoga for such a long time!

When yoga finished, I headed back to the room for a little relax time, until I eventually needed dinner and went out. I went to Flavornesia, a restaurant for Indonesian fare, and talked to Mom and Dad while I was there.

After dinner, I went to the ATM to get some more cash out since my stash was running low, got gelato for dessert, and walked around the island a little bit. I came across a spot on the beach where there was an open-air theatre/bar/restaurant and Mama Mia was playing. I stood there for a few happy moments soaking up the song and the atmosphere.

My delicious-but-out-of-focus gelato! Stracchiatella, my favourite!

I was in a very happy mood when I got back and stayed up for a little while longer before I finally showered, brushed my teeth, and climbed into bed.
