April 29, 2023 — I got up and had free breakfast (yay!) at the hostel that morning, which consisted of scrambled eggs, toast, and fresh orange juice (which was seriously so good).

I decided to rent a bike through the hostel that morning and went for a bike ride around the island. I headed north around the east side of the island first, but that unfortunately dead-ends so I made my way south instead and wrapped around the outside of the island. It was really neat to see how the area changes the further you go along the west of the island and how much quieter the beach gets. If you’re looking for beach time, the west side is better because there’s far fewer boats around and the number of restaurants set up on the beach dwindles.

I got back around eleven a.m. and sat on the beach for a while, contemplating whether or not I wanted to find a spot to sit and swim or if I wanted to go snorkelling. All that contemplating worked up an appetite and I decided to go for lunch.

After that, I made my way back to the hostel and had an afternoon lie-in. For some reason, I got extremely tired on this leg of my trip and it certainly did seem like a good place to indulge in it, though it took me a few days to fully embrace that (but more on that later).
I got up later and headed around the west side of the island for sunset. Sadly, this was pretty disappointing because of the cloud cover in the area. All I want is to see the sun sink below the waves in a cloudless sky. Is that too much to ask?

I headed back to the hostel in the dimming light and took a rinse off in the shower and got changed. I decided to go to an Italian place for dinner, which advertised homemade, fresh pasta using an Italian mama’s recipe, but made completely in Indonesia. It was a seriously awesome gastronomic experience and I’m so glad I went. I also found out they had cheesy fries so you can bet I went back the next day for lunch.

I chatted with my mom while I sat in the restaurant. One of the nicest things about being in Indonesia was that I could finally have dinner and talk to home at the same time because we only had a 12 hour time difference. (I used to think that would be such a tough time difference, but it’s actually the best!)
I headed back to the hostel and showered for real, then called Dad while curled up in bed and heading toward sleep. I ended up taking a couple Tylenol before I went to sleep because I had a headache brewing. Then I finally curled up, watched the rest of Mall Cop, had some chips, and went to sleep.
