April 17, 2023 — Today was a bit of a letdown compared to the excitement of the day before. I planned on perhaps going for a hike up Walsh’s Pyramid today and then getting a pedicure, but I just couldn’t summon up the energy to do either. Instead, I woke up at 8:00am (still a decent hour, at least), had some breakfast, and worked on blogging for the morning. I had fallen very far behind at this point and I really needed to get caught up soon if I expected to be even close to caught up for the rest of my trip.
After a morning spent blogging, I had some lunch. I planned on going outside after lunch but the weather stalled my plans as the skies opened up and poured rain. In fact, it rained most of the rest of my trip, which was a bit sad. Instead, I waited for the rain to abate while sitting in the common room doing some French on Duolingo and scrolling through Instagram and TikTok. I watched a couple shows and stared out the window every now and then.
My data, as I found out the night before, was really starting to dwindle because unfortunately the wifi signal to my room really sucked and I was using my data almost exclusively. And I watch TV to fall asleep, so it goes kind of fast… (spoiler alert: I ran out of my data two days later).
At around 3:00pm that afternoon I finally got out of the hostel and went on a walk to pick up some things that I needed. One was a microfibre towel because, as we know, I lost mine and hadn’t replaced it with a similar item yet (all I had was a fluffy beach towel that I couldn’t take with me for much longer). I also bought a pair of leggings (I’d lost my pair in Tasmania and hadn’t needed to replace them yet but I was planning on hiking in potentially chilly temperatures in Indonesia and figured that I’d want some).
After dropping off my purchases at the hostel, I headed out for dinner at Muddy’s Cafe on the Esplanade. Mom had sent the recommendation to me and suggested I get a juice or smoothie and the Fisherman’s Platter — on her! How could I possibly refuse? I really enjoyed dinner, although it was so much food I couldn’t finish it, and walked back to the hostel while chatting with Mom and Dad after sitting on the boardwalk for a while, watching the world go by.

When I got back to the hostel, I showered and headed to bed.
