Day 55: Brisbane, Australia

March 22, 2023 — It’s really difficult to get out of bed when you’ve spent the better part of a week being lazy in an effort to kick a cold. I had another late start this morning, but I was supposed to meet a friend that I made in Melbourne at the Queensland Art Gallery at noon that day. I texted to defer our meeting time to one p.m. instead, then got breakfast, got dressed, and walked my way down to the Gallery.

I met Antonia, who I met in Melbourne, and her friend Aimee, who she met along her travels since, and we wandered around the Queensland Art Gallery. We spent a couple solid hours in just one block of the complex, which, looking at the map, had another whole section that we didn’t even get a chance to explore. Art galleries can be a bit hit-and-miss for me, but I actually really enjoyed this one — there are a lot of different pieces. Still, all of us were ready to go a couple of hours later as we were all kinda hungry.

We went walking down South Bank in search of something. Antonia was in the mood for something sweet so I suggested my new favourite, Gélare, for waffles. We had a look at the menu and both Antonia and Aimee thought it sounded good. We ordered, sat, and spent the next several hours talking. Day turned to dusk turned to night and we eventually left as we all figured it was time to head back. Aimee and I needed to find public toilets and on our way, we saw seesaws! The three of us took a couple turns on them. I forgot how fun they are.

Aimee and I were staying in hostels right next to each other, so we headed our way while Antonia walked back to her hostel, which was across a different bridge over the river. Before we parted ways, we all exchanged numbers and created a group chat with tentative plans to head to the Glass House Mountains the next day.

I had a quiet rest of the evening back at the hostel and went to bed after calling home.
