Day 53: Brisbane, Australia

March 20, 2023 — My morning started brighter and earlier than those preceding it, and it also started a little more actively. I woke up and did some grocery shopping at the Coles grocery store, conveniently located practically right across the street from my hostel. (Wondering which hostels I’ve been staying in and my thoughts on them? Check out this post, which I’ll be continuing to update.)

When I got back to the hostel, I got my groceries put away. There wasn’t quite enough space to keep everything in a spot in the kitchen, so my cold stuff went to the fridge and the rest of it came back to my room with me. I gathered up my laundry and took it down to the laundry room, added soap and the appropriate coins after getting change from the front desk, then got my swimsuit on and sat by the pool.

I enjoyed a couple banana muffins that I picked up from the grocery store while I read the book I bought yesterday, soaked up some sun, and occasionally cooled off in the pool. Being in a subtropical climate, the pool water here never gets very cold, and being in the sun all day meant that the pool here is quite warm, albeit still refreshing because it’s so very hot and humid outside. Feeling the breeze on your skin after a quick dip is wonderful.

I took a break to switch my clothes over to the dryer, then went back to my spot on the pool deck and continued reading while the cycle finished.

When the timer on my phone went off (because you don’t want to be that person who leaves their stuff in the laundry and ties up a machine), I left my spot and packed everything back into their appropriate packing cubes. (Seriously, I cannot believe I went my whole life without packing cubes. They’re so versatile and so useful in so many situations!)

I went back up to the room and got changed for the day. I planned to go out that evening and enjoy a little walk around the city, but once I got changed I curled up in bed, planning on just relaxing for a couple minutes, and ended up having a nap. Which I must say, I didn’t regret in the slightest. I was still recovering from the last couple of days and it was probably a really good thing that I had another bit of a rest day.

I had lunch and dinner at the hostel and went to bed that night after chatting with Mom and Dad. Here’s to a more active day tomorrow!
