Day 46: Byron Bay, Australia

March 13, 2023 — Per the norm, I got picked up outside the hostel this morning for my surf lesson and although I was feeling a lot better, I wasn’t completely a hundred percent, and still felt a little fragile. I didn’t have the best surf lesson, but I did have some success and I did better than the first day, so that’s what counts. You can’t get better if you don’t try.

Instead of spending time in town that day, I headed straight back to the hostel afterward and showered, ate some lunch, and did laundry. I curled up on my bunk with The Parent Trap followed by Shrek Forever After which I’d never actually seen and did have to pause because I was falling asleep. I napped for an hour, then went and made dinner.

Some hostel kitchens are certainly better than others, but at this particular one and at this moment, I couldn’t wait to not have to use communal kitchens anymore! It’s so busy, there’s not enough space, and constant vigilance in keeping tidied up is necessary. Plus, some don’t have enough utensils and other things for everyone. I had to check for forks several times before I happened upon any.

Fed and full, I went to my room and got my pj’s on, then talked to mom and dad before crawling back into bed and getting a good night’s sleep.
