March 8, 2023 — Today was a very quiet day. After waking up in the morning to a questionable-looking sky, I had a bit of breakfast and got dressed.
Since it wasn’t raining at that moment, I figured it was as good a time as any to head into town and do some shopping. We’d looked into sending some more clothes to me as I’ve come to realize that I absolutely did not pack enough, but it was going to be way too expensive to do and I was now looking to make some purchases.
I didn’t make it as far as the clothing stores, but I did make it to Coles to do a little grocery shopping. This was actually my first time in a Coles grocery store in Australia, even though it’s the biggest of all the chains. When I did my initial research in Melbourne, the site said that it was also the slightly more expensive of all of them, and since then I’ve shied away from them. Coles was the only option in Port Macquarie, though, so in I went.
In my experience, the prices are generally similar although there are more cheaper options at Woolworths and Aldi. I picked up a few things and then checked out and headed down the monorail, only to find that it was teeming rain outside. Instead of getting wet, I looked at my watch and realized that it was only about 7:30pm at home and called Dad. We chatted for a while while I waited for the rain to stop, and then while I walked back to the hostel.
After we hung up, I had lunch and watched more Outer Banks, finally finishing the second season and starting the third season, which was so good. I had a brief break in my watching to make tomato soup and grilled cheese for dinner and then another break to call Mom, finally finishing the new season after midnight. Now I just have to wait for season four!
