Day 10: Melbourne, Australia (last day!)

February 5, 2023 — On my last full day in Melbourne, I went a little nuts.

I had another quiet morning with breakfast at the hostel before I headed out on a little walk. I made my way down to the Yarra River, since I had been wanting to walk along it. It wasn’t raining, finally, so I had my opportunity. I walked along, past a bunch of little restaurants and pretty waterfront, doing a little people-watching as so many people were out for Sunday brunch. I made my way over the river once, twice, then a third time as I made my way back over to my bank of the river. I decided to find something to eat.

That took a while! I explored laneways, trying to find something to tickle my fancy. I finally decided that pizza sounded absolutely amazing and Googled to find some of the best pizza spots in Melbourne. One that jumped out at me was +39 Pizzeria, which is named after the country code for Italy (how cute is that?). I made my way through the lanes and main streets to the restaurant (which I almost missed, it’s so hard to spot!). I sat down and had a lovely glass of wine and a classic Margherita pizza — so good.

On my walk over to pizza, I had noticed a little place in one of the laneways that was getting a lot of attention: there was a line all the way out the door and down the alley, and there were people crammed inside at tables. I walked past it again on my way back to the hostel, and decided I simply had to stop when I saw the little dessert cakes all lined up in the display case. I went for a burnt tiramisu cheesecake and it was one of the most delectable things I’ve ever had in my life.

That evening, I settled in for a quiet evening spent packing and watching good old-fashioned Netflix. I was so excited to head out on my two-day tour of the Great Ocean Road the next morning!
