January 26, 2023 — My first day in Hawaii was exactly what the doctor ordered. I slept in until 8:00am and then got up, organized my bag since I came in past ten the previous night, and headed out for a walk on the beach.

I was searching for breakfast at the same time and came across a plethora of food spots right near my hostel. I walked by, then circled back to, Tucker & Bevvy Breakfast for a fruit smoothie called Tropical Storm. It was thoroughly delicious, so fresh and so welcome on what was shaping up to be a warm and sunny day. I sipped on it while I walked along Waikiki Beach and back, then continued on down to the other end. So much walking in this first day! But that was welcome after the previous day spent cooped up in airplanes and airports.

I picked up some provisions and lunch at an ABC Stores where they were also selling bananas! I loved keeping with the fruit theme of the day.
I wandered down the beach and took some time to find a good spot, then spent the rest of the afternoon alternating between lying under the sun and reading and swimming to cool off.
Eventually, I packed myself back up and went back to the hostel for some cool-down, quiet time with my iPad, working on a couple posts for the blog and calling home. Close to six pm, I walked a few hundred feet to Teddy’s Bigger Burgers for dinner and caught the tail end of the sunset on the beach. Such stunning and soft colours.

By that time, I was basically ready to turn in and I headed back to the hostel once again, showered, and wound down. It was the perfect low-key day to start off my journey, especially after such a hectic time the day before.
